Focusing your Energy for Mental Health Awareness Week

This week marks Mental Health Awareness week in the UK. The Mental Health Foundation suggest acts of kindness for supporting your mental wellness: https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/mental-health-awareness-week

This is a fantastic campaign, in my opinion, and I want to explore the concept further by suggesting that this relates to energy flow.

Everything around us and everything in us is energy. Tiny particles that vibrate and communicate and affect us in subtle ways. We don't always understand or even choose to be mindful of this energy.

Emotions are energy; whether or not we pay attention, we are always being affected by energy. What this campaign suggests is aligned with learning to pay attention and incorporate simple practices we can adopt for greater mental health and vitality, as well as feeling more emotionally balanced and joyful.

To demonstrate this influence of energy I want you to think about times when you have walked into a room and the feeling is palpable either because an argument has occurred or a particularly joyous moment has just been shared - this is evidence of energy. Another example is being so afraid of something that you can make yourself physically ill; like being apprehensive about something and feeling a knot in your stomach or being so excited about something that you have a butterfly, fluttery, feeling in your stomach.

It is easy to have tangible, physical experiences of life; seeing, touching, tasting, smelling and hearing, that make sense to you in the conscious part of your mind. We accept this without question, however, that is not all there is, there is so much going on beyond the reach of the five senses. The more we pay attention to those subtle and energy-based influences the greater our life experiences will be, and in turn, the more vital our mental health will be.

I encourage my clients to become mindful of habits and the subconscious behaviours that may be weakening the energetic field. Thoughts and beliefs shape our experiences. In order to stay emotionally and physically healthy small acts of kindness are a great habit to pursue. There are many other ways to influence our energy; so we go from feeling like we carry the weight of the world on our shoulders to feeling the love of the world.

Why not think about doing some nutritious baking (this lemon drizzle cake always goes down a treat: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/you/article-4114002/Davina-s-Sugar-free-Hurry-Lemon-drizzle-cake.html) or cooking for an elderly neighbour? Or running an errand for someone unable to leave thier home in this challenging time? Pulling some weeds in a neighbour's garden will provide you with physical exercise, stimulate the creative part of your brain and really help someone unable to do it themselves.

If any of this resonates or you would like to recieve support in this process I may be able to help, so please do reach out.
